Container gardening expert Melissa King shows you how to create a striking indoor display with colourful Ficus foliage in a myriad of colours.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 4 x Black Poly Rattan Pots in different shapes and sizes
  • 1 x Ficus ‘Sofia’
  • 1 x Ficus ‘Ruby’
  • 1 x Ficus ‘Burgundy’
  • 1 x Ficus ‘Tineke’

Group your black poly rattan pots together in a spot with bright indirect light. Place the tallest pot towards the back of the display and nest the other pots around it to form a little potted family. Let Ficus ‘Tineke’ take centre stage in the tallest pot. The stunning cream, green and pink foliage will light up any room. Then fill the larger drum pot with Ficus ‘Sofia’ which boasts big bold shiny foliage. Add a splash of colour to the egg-shaped pot with Ficus’ Ruby’, which has beautiful tri-coloured leaves and complete the potted picture with the lovely Ficus ‘Burgundy’ which has thicky glossy burgundy red, almost black foliage.

Tip: Choose the right size plants for each cover pot. Then simply drop the plants into each cover pot, black plastic pot and all. Cover pots don’t have drainage holes, so when it’s time to water, remove the plant and its black/growers pot out of the cover pot and water it at a sink or outdoors. Once you have let it drain, pop the plant back into the cover pot.
