Container Gardening expert Melissa King shows you how to create a tough, low maintenance potted combo that will light up your patio or balcony.
Here’s what you’ll need:
1 x Riley Egg Pot in White (52cm x 47cm)
1 x Bag Quality Potting Mix
1 x Cordyline ‘Red Star’
1 x Leucadendron ‘Strawberries and Cream’
1 x Leucadendron ‘Devil’s Blush’
1 x Coprosma ‘Fireburst’
1 x Acorus ‘Variegata’
1 x Crassula ‘Surprise Party’
1 x Crassula Ovata
1 x Portulacaria ‘Variegata’
1 x Carex buchananii
Let the Cordyline ‘Red Star’ take centre stage at the back of the container. It displays attractive plum red sword shaped leaves that stand tall and proud all year long. Frame the ‘Red Star’ on either side with Leucadendron ‘Strawberries and Cream’ and ‘Devil’s Blush’ with showy bracts in vibrant shades of red. Then tuck some Carex buchananii into the centre of the pot for a relaxed splash of bronze. Lighten the look with beautiful variegated Acorus and Portulacaria. Complete your potted display with decorative Crassulas which are both tough and beautiful.
TIP: Red is a strong accent colour so add a pop of red to a white pot to bring fire and energy to the display
